More than a Thousand Celebrate Chinese New Year at Thatcham Broadway Market

On Sunday 1st March over a thousand locals and visitors flocked to Thatcham Broadway for the second Chinese New Year market in celebration of East Asian culture and street food.

Traditional Lion Dances captivated crowds throughout the day, with performers weaving through the market to the beat of drums and cymbals, creating an unusual sight on The Broadway and an unforgettable experience for families.

Visitors indulged in a variety of authentic street food and explored market stalls offering handmade crafts, themed gifts, and seasonal treats. This diverse mix of traders made for a vibrant celebration welcoming to all ages.

Organised by Thatcham Town Council, the event aimed to unite residents and support local businesses. The impressive turnout shows the town’s enthusiasm for cultural festivities and community activities.

Mayor Councillor Petra Pemberton spokesperson said:

“It was fantastic to see everyone come together for Chinese New Year in Thatcham. The energy was amazing, and we appreciate our performers, traders, and visitors who made the day a success.”
