Mayor Councillor Petra Pemberton is delighted to announce an exciting new Children’s Poetry Competition celebrating the theme “What Thatcham Means to Me.”
This creative challenge invites young people to share what makes Thatcham special to them – from favourite places and people to memories and dreams for the future. Whether it’s a heartfelt verse, a rhyming rhyme, or a free-flowing piece of expression, the competition is a chance for young voices to shine.
Deadline for entries: Thursday 21st November 2025
Who Can Enter
The competition is open to anyone aged 18 or under who has a connection to Thatcham in any way.
How to Enter
- Write a poem of up to 30 lines on the theme “What Thatcham Means to Me.”
- You can use any style you like – rhyming, free verse, acrostic, or something entirely your own!
- Your poem must be your own original work.
- Email your entry to enquiries@thatchamtowncouncil.gov.uk
- Include your name, age, postcode, and school.
- Closing date: Thursday 21st November 2025.
The Prize
The winning poet will receive a special invitation to take the stage at the Thatcham Christmas Lights Switch-On on Friday 5th December 2025, where the Mayor of Thatcham will proudly read the winning poem aloud in front of the gathered crowd.
This is a wonderful opportunity for local children to showcase their creativity, celebrate their community, and be part of one of Thatcham’s most festive events of the year.
