Celebrate VE Day 80 in Style at Thatcham’s Best of British Market
Thatcham Town Council is hosting a Best of British Market in celebration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day. Join us on the bank holiday Monday 5th May, from 10am to 3pm on The Broadway, as Thatcham echoes the spirit of the street parties that marked the end of World War II eight decades ago.
The market will be bursting with British local food and drink and handmade crafts that showcase the very best of UK talent. Visitors can indulge in a variety of treats, including freshly made crêpes and artisan doughnuts, as well as a traditional ice cream van. For those craving something savoury, there will be local cheeses and a roast pork, all washed down with a good old cup of tea (or glass of bubbles!), while browsing an array of handmade crafts that celebrate British creativity and craftsmanship.
Adding to the festivities, Thatcham Women’s Institute will be on hand serving up free cake and jam, whilst Kennet Radio keep spirits high with music all day.
Visitors are encouraged to don their best 1940s attire—think victory rolls, land girls, tea dresses, and vintage suits—to really bring the era to life. There will be tables and chairs set out for a community lunch, so pack a picnic or pick up something from the market and local shops and enjoy it with neighbours and friends.
Whether you’re a history buff, a market lover, or just looking for a great way to spend the Bank Holiday, Thatcham’s VE Day 80 Best of British Market promises a fun, friendly, and memorable experience for all.
Let’s come together, honour the past, and celebrate the very best of British!
