Thatcham’s History Trails

Thatcham’s rich history is something we’re proud to celebrate and share. To help the community discover the stories right on their doorstep, the Thatcham Town Council Heritage Working Party, has collaborated with members of the Thatcham Historical Society, to create a series of interactive History Trails through the town.

Thatcham History Trail 

Designed to bring local heritage to life, the trail invites residents and visitors alike to step outside, explore the town and connect with Thatcham’s past.

Along the route you’ll find a series of information panels placed at key locations around the town. Each panel includes a QR code which can be scanned using your smartphone camera. Once scanned, you’ll be taken to a webpage featuring historic photographs and fascinating stories about that very spot.

For those without smartphones, a printed leaflet is available from the Thatcham Council Offices and Thatcham Library, so everyone can enjoy the journey through local history.

The current trail explores the town centre and follows an accessible route.

COMING SOON – Thatcham’s Blue Plaque Trail 

Step back in time and explore the stories that shaped our town with the Thatcham Blue Plaque Trail. This self-guided walking trail takes you around Thatcham to discover the people, places, and events that have played an important role in the town’s history.

The plaques mark buildings and locations connected with significant moments from Thatcham’s past. Each plaque reveals a fascinating story — from notable residents and historic buildings to events that helped shape the community we know today.

The trail is a great way to experience Thatcham differently. As you walk through the town, you’ll uncover hidden details about familiar streets, learn about remarkable local figures, and see historic locations you may have passed many times before without knowing their story. And with a new blue plaque being unveiled annually, this trail is always growing.

Updated copies of the Trail will be available for collection at the Thatcham Council Offices soon. 

COMING SOON – Thatcham Scavenger Hunt

Looking for a fun day out with the kids? Our Thatcham Scavenger Hunt is the perfect way for families to explore the town while solving clues, discovering hidden spots, and completing exciting challenges along the way.

Designed especially for children and families, the scavenger hunt takes you on an adventure around the town. Participants follow a trail of clues that encourage teamwork, observation, and creativity.

Copies of the Trail will be available for collection at the Thatcham Council Offices soon.
