Calling for Entries for Thatcham’s first ever ‘Thatcham in Bloom’ Competition
Thatcham Town Council is delighted to announce the launch of the town’s inaugural ‘Thatcham in Bloom’ competition. Designed to bring neighbours together, boost civic pride and make our beautiful town an even brighter place to live, the competition is completely free and open to everyone.

Whether you’re a seasoned gardener with a thriving allotment, a business looking to brighten the High Street, or a school nurturing the next generation of eco-warriors, there is a category for you. Entries are judged on creativity, sustainability, visual impact, and how your space contributes to the local environment and community not just pristine landscaping.
The Official 2026 Competition Categories:
- Best Street-Facing Garden: Have you ever walked past a house and smiled from the scent of a beautiful window box or the beauty of a verdant front garden? Now it’s your turn to bring that joy to the neighbourhood
- Best Allotment Plot: To the growers, the weed pullers, the early morning waterers and the giants of the compost heap, this one is for you! Whether you’ve created an abundance of fruit, veggies and flowers or wildlife havens with bug hotels, small ponds and pollinator friendly plants, organic methods, rainwater harvesting or clever companion planting, showcase what you’ve created on your allotment
- Best School Garden / Eco-Project: Connect with your classmates and get stuck in to nature. Nurturing young green fingers and sustainability to create a place to be proud of. Nurturing young green fingers and sustainability
- Best Business or Shopfront Display: Boost your kerb appeal, welcome customers with beautiful displays and show that Thatcham businesses take great pride in our town
- Best Community / Volunteer Garden: If you are transforming an un-loved corner or a communal plot in to a flower filled retreat, a wildlife haven or an imaginative eco project, this is your chance to showcase your efforts
- Best Wildlife-Friendly Garden: Best Wildlife-Friendly Garden: If you have created a vital haven for birds, bees, wildlife and pollinators, if you have a large garden with an establishes pond, a small courtyard filled with insect-friendly planters or a school eco-plot with bug hotels and rainwater harvesting, your efforts are helping Thatcham stay green and biodiverse
