On Thursday 23rd March 2023, the Mayor of Thatcham opened the Annual Town Meeting to a full house in the Council Chamber.
The Mayor, Councillor Jeff Brooks, started the evening by presenting this year’s Community Awards to 10 recipients who were present.
The awards recognise individuals, groups, organisations and businesses who have demonstrated outstanding service to the community, made a significant contribution to public life in Thatcham and have shown real dedication in helping local residents, and are awarded in the categories; Community Contributor Award, Environmental Champion, Inspiring Young Person and Lifetime Award.
The theme of this year’s Annual Town Meeting was ‘youth’, with presentations from Thatcham Scouts and 16th Platoon Thatcham Army Cadets and verbal reports on behalf of Thatcham Youth and RMD Adventure Learning, providing the audience with an overview of some of the valuable youth work going on in the town.
A report was also read on behalf of Thames Valley Police, who weren’t able to be present.
The Annual Town Meeting provides a forum for residents to engage with local stakeholders and to hear about what their Town Council has been up to over the year. Usually held in the Parish Hall, this year’s meeting had to move to the Council Chamber due to closure of the Parish Hall for maintenance, but that didn’t prevent a good turnout of residents.
You can find a copy of our Annual Report below, along with the presentations from Thatcham Youth and RMD.
