More than 12,000 people flocked to Henwick Worthy Sports Field in Thatcham on Sunday 30th June for the 22nd edition of Thatcham Town Council’s annual Family Fun Day, helping to raise an estimated £25,000 for local charities, organisations and independent businesses.

Thatcham Family Fun Day offered a wide range of activities for all ages. Children delighted in inflatables, the fun run, a climbing wall and zorbing to name a few and all the family were able to enjoy the fun fair, the classic car show, theatre, Punch and Judy show, circus skills, bike displays, creative workshops and sports challenges.

The music stage returned with a bang, sponsored by Newbury Building Society and compered by Sion Whiley. Attendees were treated to performances by a variety of local musicians, including the Reading-based samba band Beat Roots Bateria, tribute band The Lost Keys, and a show-stopping set by the brilliant DJ Hypester to close the day.

The beloved Dog Show, sponsored by Thatcham’s Picture It Framed, featured popular categories such as ‘Cutest Puppy’ and ‘Dog That Looks Most Like Its Owner,’ drawing enthusiastic participants and dog fans alike, with Coco and owner Oscar winning the coveted Best in Show.

The Dance Zone was as successful as ever drawing together an impressive lineup of 13 local dance schools. Curated by the talented Sonia Brown and hosted by Kennet Radio, the event showcased a wide array of dance styles.

The Newbury Pride in Thatcham Parade was a highlight of the day. Led by Mayor Councillor Suzanne Adamantos, the parade was a vibrant display of inclusivity and diversity set to the lively rhythms of the Beat Roots Bateria samba band, and included a giant puppet, stilt walker, and a colourful ensemble of dancers.

Mayor of Thatcham, Councillor Suzanne Adamantos, expressed her delight at yet another successful event: “Family Fun Day just gets bigger and better each year – the sun shone as we brought the whole community together with lots of activities and entertainment for everyone! The Town Council staff, Councillors & volunteers worked really hard to ensure the day went smoothly and it was wonderful to be able to support so many thriving local businesses and charities.”

With a record number of free and low-cost attractions, theatre performances, kids’ activities, crafts and things to see and do, Thatcham Family Fun Day continues to be one of the best value days out for families in Berkshire and Thatcham Town Council are proud to organise this source of community pride.

Thatcham Family Fun Day 2025 will be held on Sunday 29th June.

Thatcham Town Council’s next free family event is KidsFest on Thursday, 29th August, from 10 am to 3 pm on Thatcham Broadway, High Street, and Turnfields recreation ground.
