The event was followed by refreshments and an insightful talk by Dr. Nick Young at the Council Offices.
The plaque honours the rich history of Bradley Moore House, a building believed to have been constructed in 1744. Over the years, it has been home to several notable families, including the Baily and Brown families, and has played a central role in Thatcham’s community health. For nearly 70 years, the building served as a doctors’ surgery, and today it continues to contribute to local well-being as Cedar Dental Care, a family dental practice.
In addition to its historical significance, it was the first medical surgery in Thatcham to offer NHS services. Dr. Bradley-Moore, one of the district’s pioneering female doctors, later became the building’s owner and a key local figure. She practiced medicine here until her retirement in 1977.
Over time, the building has been known by various names, including The Cedars, Walnut House, and The Poplars, before being officially named Bradley Moore House.
This Blue Plaque recognises the ongoing legacy of a building that has been integral to the town’s health services for generations.
