Here’s what happened in 2024…\nWe can’t wait to bring you Thatcham Family Fun Day 2024 on Sunday June 30th 2024\, 11am till 4pm at Henwick Worthy Sports Ground!\n\n\n\n\n\nThatcham Town Council’s flagship event\, Thatcham Family Fun Day\, returns to Henwick Worthy Sports Field for the 24th year and is set to be bigger and better than ever! Over 10\,000 people joined us in 2023\, and with lots of old favourites returning\, including the classic funfair\, and lots of new stalls\, food and entertainment to discover\, the Family Fun Day will continue to be what many consider to be Thatcham’s best free entry day out of the year! \n\nCHILDRENS’ AREAS\nThere will be a wide range of activities including the fun fair\, zorbing\, an inflatable assault course and a fabulously fun Land Train\, circus skills with Juggling Jake\, and Punch & Judy. \n\nSTREET THEATRE  \nPrepare to be dazzled by some of the best street entertainment around. You will be in awe of our (almost) real-life dinosaur roaming around the field\, and catch The Library at the Edge of the World – an interactive play aimed at younger children about the importance of stories and libraries. \nRPM Bike Display are another new attraction for this year\, featuring bike stunt displays – a must-see attraction! \nTHE DOG SHOW\nSponsored by Picture It Framed\nPrepare your poodles and ready your retrievers\, the Family Fun Day Dog Show returns this year with every dog welcome to enter! This year’s categories include: • Cutest Puppy (under 2yrs) • Adorable Adult (2-9 yrs) • Super Senior (10+ yrs) • Best Rescue • Best Dressed – and not forgetting the Best in Show award! Registration will be from 11am on the day\, and will be £1 per category to enter. Talented youngster DJ Hypester will close the stage from 3.30pm with some dance tracks. Kennet Radio will compere the Dance Zone which will feature music styles from many dance schools in the region. SUMMARY:D Day 80 Celebrations
DESCRIPTION:Thatcham Town Council will be supporting two commemorative events which will be taking place on Thursday 6th June\, the 80th anniversary of D-Day to mark  one of the most significant military operations in history\, and to remember those who gave their lives for the freedom of Europe. \nAt 11.00am  Thatcham Town Council is supporting The  Royal British Legion Thatcham Branch as they conduct an act of commemoration  at Thatcham Memorial Gardens (Brownsfield Rd Thatcham).  All attendees will be invited to the Town Council Chamber following the service where refreshments will be served. \nIn the evening\,  Thatcham Town Council will be supporting  Greenham Parish Council and Newbury Town Council at a lighting of the Tower event at  Greenham Control Tower. The lighting of the Tower and Beacon Lighting will take place at 9.15pm. There will also be entertainment starting from 6.00pm with Kennet Radio and a dance floor for the occasion\, as well as Fish and Chips and liquid refreshment\, which will continue after the Tower Lighting. \nThatcham Town Council is providing a free courtesy shuttle bus\, run by Newbury and District Buses\, taking members of the public who may wish to attend the Greenham Control Tower evening commemorations. \n\n6pm Tower opens for evening activities\n9.15pm – Address\, then lighting up of the tower\n\nFeaturing: \n\nDisplays of Military Vehicles\nExhibition for D-Day 80\nUS Air Force\nRAF Welford Historical Society\nKennet Radio outside broadcast\nEvening of music & dancing\nBar by Renegade Brewery\n\nFree buses start from Thatcham Broadway (outside Morrisons) and Thatcham Town FC Clubhouse 15 mins later\nEvening only\nDepart Thatcham 19:15\, 19:45 – Depart Control Tower 21:45\, 22:15\nBooking not required\, but if you would like to reserve a bus space please email enqiuries@thatchamtowncouncil.gov.uk letting us know which but you will be getting on.

DESCRIPTION:The Jubilee Garden Community Social\nJoin us for the new re-launched ‘Jubilee Garden Community’ drop in group (previously Carer’s Garden) which is now open to all! \n\n\nWe are not expecting the weather to be fantastic so the event will be held in the comfort of the Council Chambers\, located just next to the Jubilee Sensory Garden.\n\nOur event in January falls on Burns Night so it is only right that we honour this for our theme! Expect Tartan\, thistles and shortbread. The activity will be painting terracotta plant pots. It should be a lot of fun!\n\nWhat to expect?\nA friendly\, welcoming group who you can meet and share a drink with. Our Gardener\, Sally\, will be running the session and providing garden-related crafts to enjoy\, in a warm and dry environment. There is no obligation to get involved with the activities\, those who just wish to come along and have a chat and a hot drink are equally as welcome. Perhaps you are just keen to get out of the house and meet new people? DESCRIPTION:The Town Mayor of Thatcham hosts the annual Civic Carol Service at St Mary’s Church. \nThe Barfield Handbell Ringers play as people take their seats. The Rector and Mayor’s Chaplain lead the service with the Mayor\, Deputy Mayor\, senior pupils from Kennet and Trinity\, and representatives from the Mayor’s Charities taking part. \nThe congregation is invited to join in with a number of carols and there are performances from the Handbell Ringers and the Church Choir.

DESCRIPTION:Thatcham Town Council will again be Warming up for Christmas as the countdown to the lights switch on takes place on Friday December 1st\, with festive stalls open from 5pm and entertainment starting at 5.30pm. The lights will be switched on by Mayor Mark Lillycrop and special guests at 7pm. \nWe will be supplying some of the magic associated with this special time of year as we guarantee that there will be snow and a special appearance from Santa and some special sparkles in the sky when the lights are switched on. \nThe special stage line up and acts confirmed so far include: West Berkshire Rock Choir\, KATS (with a medley from Fiddler on the Roof)\, Whitelands Park Primary School Choir\, Dance with Sonia Brown and Jamie Read Musical Theatre Group. \nThere will also be a steam engine\, street food\, gift stalls a petting farm and\, of course\, Santa and his sleigh providing a perfect backdrop to the festivities.

DESCRIPTION:All are very welcome to watch the parade and service for Remembrance Day on Sunday 12th November 2023. \nThe parade starts at 10.30am from the Kingsland Centre car park\, loops around Thatcham Broadway and up the High Street to the War Memorial. The Mayor\, Reverend Mark Bennet and the Royal British Legion will lead the service at the War Memorial. After the main wreath laying\, members of the public will be invited to lay their own tributes. \nTo view the full order of service\, please click here \nArmistice Day \nA smaller service for Armistice Day will be led by the Royal British Legion on Saturday 11th November from 10.45am at the War Memorial. \nAll are very welcome to attend the short service which will take place on Thatcham Memorial Gardens. The service takes place at 11.00am and if you wish to attend please ensure that you are at the Garden by 10.55am. \nAfter the service those attending are welcome to attend the Thatcham Memorial Foundation Hall where refreshments will be available. \nThatcham’s War Memorial\nThe War Memorial is set in a small garden at the junction of Brownsfield Road and London Road (A4). SUMMARY:United Service of Remembrance
DESCRIPTION:Held at the London Road Cemetery\, the United Service of Remembrance brings people together to remember loved ones who have passed away in the previous 2 years. The Mayor’s Chaplain leads the service with poetry\, readings and prayers read by Councillors\, members of local churches and representatives from the Mayor’s charities. \nNormally volunteers from Samaritans and/or Cruse Bereavement Care are available after the service to support visitors. \nThe service is held on a grassed area in the centre of the cemetery\, if the weather is particularly unpleasant then the service will be held in the Cemetery chapel. \nWhilst anyone is welcome to join the service\, invitations are directly sent to the family of all those who have been interred at the cemetery in the preceding 2 years.
