Expect a magical evening with a dazzling display of lights\, including a new lighting scheme for the Town Centre.  The night will feature live performances of stage entertainment with carol singers\, dancers and roaming entertainment\, including stilt walkers and a bubble making fairy plus a special appearance from Santa Claus and his sleigh himself thanks to Newbury Lions. \nOnce again\, we can  guarantee that it will snow in Thatcham on this evening ! \nConfirmed on the main stage will be carol singing from Kennet School \, Spurcroft School and St Marys Church Choirs;  dance with Sonia Brown and All Stars Theatre Academy. Completing the programme will be KATS with a sample of theatre from their festive production of Treasure Island whilst DJ Stop Start will keep everyone warm and dancing by playing music after the lights are switched on ! The Switch-On will be made by Mayor Suzanne Adamantos with a guest appearance form Santa Clause. \nThatcham High Street will be closed to traffic for the first time as well as Thatcham Broadway which will allow for a record number of  gift and food stalls from local community and business organisations and a festive atmosphere throughout. Kennet Radio will be providing a roadshow of festive sounds along the High Street which will also feature a Victorian style steam engines and hot roast chestnuts to link with the Victorian theme. \nStarting at 10am on Saturday 7th December\, Warming up for Christmas continues with a special Christmas Market  which will take over Broadway. It’s the perfect place to find unique\, locally sourced gifts while supporting Thatcham businesses. Entertainment will continue throughout the day\, with performances taking place in front of the giant Christmas Tree. \nOn both days visitors will also be able to vote for their best Victorian style themed window displays\, sponsored by Newbury Weekly News\, as the towns retailers join in the festive atmosphere.+ \n‘Warming up for Christmas’\, is sponsored by Tomato Energy and Newbury Building Society.  The Christmas Tree this year is sponsored by Xtrac. \nSunday 8th December offers two wonderful events. During the day\, the Rotary Club of Thatcham and District will host the Santa Fun Run\, a joyful event for all ages. DESCRIPTION:KidsFest Thatcham is a FREE event organised by Thatcham Town Council\, aimed at bringing families and the community together for a day of entertainment\, activities\, and fun. Taking place in the town centre on Thursday 29th of August from 10am to 3pm we hope to provide Thatcham’s residents with a day packed full of fun before heading back to school. \nSt Mary’s church will open its doors to the wonderful team from The Watermill Theatre who will be running several free drama workshops and theatre craft sessions. Keep an eye on Thatcham Town Council’s Facebook page for how to sign up for these exciting sessions\, hurry as spaces will be limited! \nTurnfields Recreation Ground will host the Howden Under 5s Zone with a menagerie of inflatables for under 5s\, and with an ice cream van and Juggling Jake who will be running circus workshops and showing off his incredible skills\, it’s the perfect place to kick off your family fun day out. \nThe Broadway will be home to a variety of arts and crafts activities\, from t-shirt printing with Berkshire Print Makers\, to a doodle zone with Magpie and the Mob. There will be a live theatre performance from Four Eyed Theatre\, who will take to the stage with their short interactive play about mental health. Be sure to grab something to eat from one of Thatcham’s fabulous food outlets\, then take a seat in our picnic area\, relax\, and enjoy some live music! \nThe High Street will be a hub of activity with gift and community stalls\, Face painting\, Games and of course an Ice Cream Van. \nMake sure you take part in the very special superhero teddy bear treasure trail. Keep your eye out for bears hiding in shop windows and note down each of the letters they hold. DESCRIPTION:Thatcham Town Council will be supporting two commemorative events which will be taking place on Thursday 6th June\, the 80th anniversary of D-Day to mark  one of the most significant military operations in history\, and to remember those who gave their lives for the freedom of Europe. \nAt 11.00am  Thatcham Town Council is supporting The  Royal British Legion Thatcham Branch as they conduct an act of commemoration  at Thatcham Memorial Gardens (Brownsfield Rd Thatcham).  All attendees will be invited to the Town Council Chamber following the service where refreshments will be served. \nIn the evening\,  Thatcham Town Council will be supporting  Greenham Parish Council and Newbury Town Council at a lighting of the Tower event at  Greenham Control Tower. The lighting of the Tower and Beacon Lighting will take place at 9.15pm. DESCRIPTION:Join us for a friendly chat over tea\, cake and live music as we get together and socialise for Dementia Action Week.\n\nOpen to all\, the Garden Party aims to support and raise awareness for individuals and families affected by dementia. Free refreshments can be enjoyed in the garden\, whilst listening to live music from local musician Sion Wiley who will be playing acoustic songs from across the decades. There will also be the opportunity to contribute to a collaborative piece of artwork designed to highlight our community. \n\nThere is no obligation to get involved with the activities\, those who just wish to come along and have a chat and a hot drink are equally as welcome. Perhaps you are just keen to get out of the house and meet new people? Whatever your reasons for wanting to come along\, we just hope you do!\n\nThere is no need to book\, just turn up on the day!

No artistic skill is necessary!\n\nLibby is a strong believer in the power of creativity and mindfulness to support mental health\, stress management\, sleep and relaxation. As an art teacher of 9 years\, she has now turned to using these skills to support all ages in the community to help them get some headspace and live more mindfully.\n\nThis event forms part of Thatcham Town Council’s Dementia Action Week 2024
