D Day 80 Celebrations

Thatcham Town Council will be supporting two commemorative events which will be taking place on Thursday 6th June, the 80th anniversary of D-Day to mark one of the most significant military operations in history, and to remember those who gave their lives for the freedom of Europe.
At 11.00am Thatcham Town Council is supporting The Royal British Legion Thatcham Branch as they conduct an act of commemoration at Thatcham Memorial Gardens (Brownsfield Rd Thatcham). All attendees will be invited to the Town Council Chamber following the service where refreshments will be served.
In the evening, Thatcham Town Council will be supporting Greenham Parish Council and Newbury Town Council at a lighting of the Tower event at Greenham Control Tower. The lighting of the Tower and Beacon Lighting will take place at 9.15pm. There will also be entertainment starting from 6.00pm with Kennet Radio and a dance floor for the occasion, as well as Fish and Chips and liquid refreshment, which will continue after the Tower Lighting.
Thatcham Town Council is providing a free courtesy shuttle bus, run by Newbury and District Buses, taking members of the public who may wish to attend the Greenham Control Tower evening commemorations.
